I’m not well educated on tech stuff like this. My site is used primarily as a portfolio to send to potential employers. I use the free plan, but am not sure if I’m missing something big by not using a custom domain on a paid plan. Can the people I send my free link to see the site properly? It works when I test it, so I’m not sure what the difference would be between a custom domain and the one I get with the free plan.
It is not mandatory but most like—the scope of what you would like your content to cover up. If you do not care about the following, then I guess you are good without a custom domain:
-
Your website loads under the default Readymag URL (readymag.website/…/).
-
Your site won’t be indexed (only projects with domains can). This means it won’t appear on search engine results. Unsurprisingly, a noticeable chunk of new web users no longer look for stuff through Google/Bing/Yahoo, etc., so having your content index might not be that relevant to some these days.
Aside from that, if you publish your project and share its published link, anyone that has access to it can view your content online.

Ah ok, thank you for clarifying for me!
